Last night we went to see "Ella Enchanted", an eminently enjoyable film
based on the excellent book of the same name. For those who have had the
pleasure of seeing "The 10th Kingdom", we found it somewhat reminiscent
in style and tone of that mini-series. Apart from the eponymous heroine
played by the delightful Anne Hathaway, Cary Elwes was also notable for
his entertaining performance as Uncle Edgar, the villanous regent, and
Eric Idle was as eloquent as ever as the narrator. Also features Joanna
Lumley, Minnie Driver, Lucy Punch ("Sally Peep" in "The 10th Kingdom"),
Parminder Nagra ("Bend It Like Beckham") and the voice of Steven Coogan.
As you might expect, the story is considerably simplified from the book,
but the film is still worth seeing if you like fairytales. Not a huge
audience, so I suggest catching it while it's still running.

Gasp!! No Amazon? Oh dearie me that is sad I'm sorry I brought it up. :-[
They won't do overseas huh? Shame on them. It is not the earth. Lots of the
used ones are small bookdealers I would guess many of them would be delighted
to send you books maybe you could negotiate with them. They have the emails
for contacting them on the site. I figure if something is only $1.25 you could
afford $10 postage, but that is me, I'm a biblioholic. No one mentioned Anne
McCaffrey, with very few exceptions I love her things. I buy things from
Britain now and then and have never had a problem.
So many books so little time....

Amazon has it used for $1.25, suppose postage a bit prohibitive for you

Oh, they will, but you're paying twice the price of the book to ship it
over here, which makes it prohibitively expensive almost every time, in my
case at least. And that's before you get to exchange rates and currency
conversion fees.
Watching the "FREE SHIPPING DEALS NOW!!!" ads flash up on the screen just
rubs salt into the wounds...

Actually, a good number of our secondhand bookshops list on ABE, and their
search engine allows you to restrict searches to a given country.
There's also an Antiquarian Bookseller's Association over here
<
http://www.anzaab.com/Anzaab/> with a searchable catalogue, and a good
list of secondhand dealers here:

So it's not all bad...

Cool, thanks! Yes conversion rates are challenging. I have to say they don't
make a lot of money on me because I never pay amazon postage, just the small
book sellers whom I feel need the business. Sometimes in one order I will get
3 or 4 packages with just one or 2 things in, I wonder how they make money.
Volume I suppose, or maybe they don't make money on everyone. Thanks for the
links to book sellers there. I will have to go looking. :-) Linda
