Interesting how many versions, not real spiritual but it sure is human and
quite a lovely song.  Dunno about that whipped cream.  That is a big mess to
clean up I'll tell you.  If you are going to attack someone I think shaving
cream would be kinder to whatever poor person gets to clean the mess.  Or silly
string maybe.
   When I was about 4, my parents were in the yard and I snuck into the house,
opened the fridge, climbed  up on the counter and opened the bottom of the can
of whipped cream on the can opener.  Amazingly I was not hurt but my poor
mother had to clean up a frosted kitchen, the ceiling, walls, and every
surface were covered with whipped cream.  I did not even get into much trouble
cause they were so glad I was ok. Heheh. :-\

Probably my favorite music, part of my growing up was in North Carolina.  I
remember times we would drive around in the mountains and hear incredible
music.  So much of it is lost now, commercial duded up, I like the old stuff
myself.  And old Ray he has some voice, be interesting to hear him preach and
I'll bet the singing would keep you going all week.

Actually I think it really is literally a "spiritual", in the sense that
it is a protest song arising out of the African-American musical tradition:
