"While boy-centric properties like Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtles, and G.I. Joe got $125 million+ budgets to work with, Jem and
the Holograms, a girl-centric action/musical cartoon got a $5m budget
and a feature film adaptation that went out of its way to basically
discard the action/adventure/excitement elements from the original show."

Yes, yes, yes.  They completely blew this, and it's a real shame.  And
the strangest thing is that they utterly failed to apply any of the
lessons from Hasbro's very own My Little Pony property: Lauren Faust
legendarily made the recent reboot a success by demanding that shows for
girls could also have action and excitement and agency, and thus made a
show that appeals to everyone.  Via Muse.
