Who’d be a working actor? It’s not even a dog’s life

"Pigot argues that the flowering of low cost, do-it-yourself, creative
amateurism combined with our political leaders’ failure to articulate the value
of the arts has left those in the middle squeezed – the middle occupied by
working musicians, ceramicists, painters, actors, dancers and modestly
successful writers."

Via Muse, who wrote:

Neil Pigot makes some excellent points. I believe he is being harsh on
amateur creativity. However, it does make a difference whether or not we have
people who are able to dedicate themselves to the creation of shared culture
and thereby guide us all to higher ethical and empathetic standards of
living.

I get a little tired of young performers/artists assuming older
performer/artists have it made. I get tired of people assuming that
writers/directors/producers magically have money. Some do...most do not. I
get equally tired of the older generation assuming the younger are a threat.
We are doing a terrible job of recognising our allies and banding together.
Right now we need more political art and we need to be willing to create it
together.

Cheers,
