"Thousands of Native American children were forced to attend boarding
schools created to strip them of their culture. My mother was one of them."
Via Hadrian Micciche and George Station. Hadrian wrote:
"I'm sure we are all familiar with the term "genocide", as in the U.S.
government's genocide of indiginous people. Many of us are also familiar
with the term "cultural genocide" as in the U.S. government's attempt to
wipe out the way of life of indiginous people.
Both forms of genocide were rooted, in part, in the fact that the skin
of Native Americans are dark, their languages were foreign. And their
world views and spiritual beliefs were beyond most white men’s
comprehension. Native Americans were slaughtered in the name of
civilization, Native American children were forcibly separated from
their families for the same reason."
Australia, unfortunately, has a similarly shameful history with the
Aboriginal peoples.
