"During the last worldwide school strikes in March, BBC News asked for
your questions on climate change.
Since then, thousands of you have been talking to our climate change
chatbot on Facebook Messenger.
Below are some of the topics that came up many times - with some answers
from science and our climate team."
Via Joseph Teller, who wrote:
The Red Meat thing won’t do much… despite claims to the contrary in
the USA, it’s INDIA that has the most Cattle in the world and they don’t
eat them at all. Beef consumption in the USA has been in decline since
the 1970s. Its religion that’s causing India to have all those cows.
Reducing the population thru lack of reproduction isn’t encouraged
because of Religion Influences (Christian families in the so-called
Quiver movement where 8+ children for a couple is the norm. and attempts
to curb contraception and legal abortion options via simple chemical
intervention).
Obsession with disposable is how the capitalist system has worked for
200+ years. The best we can hope for is ending government subsidies of
industries that burden the system with waste products (plastics, oil, etc.)
Death still has an environmental impact as long as embalming the dead
and permanent graves rather than cremation is the norm, again, Religion
is again to blame here. With cremation land is not wasted and poisoned
by remains that take centuries to decay and then poison the soil.
Reducing the use of concrete and cement internationally would help the
environment to an extreme. The industry around such materials production
is one of the top 5 pollution sources in the world. We need MORE
construction with Wood and bamboo and sustainable production of such
which binds up carbon that would otherwise be air borne as well.
Media depends on Capitalism to sustain it, so of course they aren’t
going to go on an anti-capitalism rampage.
