"We are entering a new world where skyscrapers and other huge buildings
are becoming redundant and need significant overhaul or replacement. The
process is called unbuilding or, if you’re a bit highfalutin,
deconstruction."
Designing for the entire lifecycle including the ending should be
mandatory for all products, but most especially the largest such as
vehicles and buildings. If there’s no plan for disassembly and
recycling, the cost and potential hazards are just being left to the
general public to pay as a hidden cost not disclosed at time of
purchase. Businesses have made a lot of money by not paying the full
costs of their products out of the sale price and simply profiting at
society’s expense.
