it? When their careers have been built on exacerbating social division
for political advantage? None of them know how to bring the nation together.
This summer, as often happens in the midst of disaster, the democratic
project found its saviour in civil society. So many acts of bravery,
generosity, considered support, so much time given to help others by
those in need, by those who lost so much, some who lost loved ones. This
summer we lost government capable of action. In its stead, we found our
soul."
