positions them as “the good guys,” fighting a cowardly bogeyman easily

North Idaho put it, “Remember that time when Antifa said they were
coming to Coeur d’Alene / And everyone grabbed their guns and they
didn’t come? That was awesome!” It doesn’t matter if antifa was never
coming in the first place. They didn’t come, and that’s evidence of
victory."
