The many faces of grief

This was the only direct reference to Sept. 11, 2001, to appear in the strip. It ran 14 days later for a couple of reasons. For one thing, I was mid-storyline when the tragedy occured--the actual 9-11-01 strip featured a gag that was a tribute to a Marx Brothers film.

What's more, this...just isn't the kind of strip where you saw weeping eagles and entreaties to stand behind the president. I just don't do chest-thumping patriotism.

But sometimes, if something terrible happens, I do do grief, in my own way. This is how I handle it.
