The meaning of like

This seemed a timely strip to rerun. I am up to here (you can't see where I'm holding my hand, but trust me, it's high) in end-of-semester work, and I'm trying not to ask myself "what is it all for?"

Because of this, I am inclined to allege that Millie's thinking is akin to the way I, as a would-be academic, am expected to approach simple questions.
