Making the best of it

Thinking about it now, I don't know why Isolde is even in this strip. She has nothing to do with the plot. I suppose it's bad writing when I do this, but there have been other times when I've let an irrelevant character pop in for a single strip if it helps me write a gag.

Matt Groening once said that one of his goals when he designed the Simpsons was to create characters who are immediately recognizable in silhouette. The Ozy and Millie characters were designed with no such purpose in mind, and are nothing like as iconic, but I do think the occasional silhouette panel shows a similar recognizability.
