The ancient Chinese
believed the stomach was the seat of intelligence-
it made the most noise.
Lying dumbly pressed against each other,
our bellies are in love.
Late-night pizza has made them restless.
Mine gurgles a shy margherita hello.
Yours chuckles a coy vegetarian reply.
Moist round fluid devotions
pass between gastric walls.
Navels kiss.
As they bubble their mutual affection,
we sleep on.
