Soap operas are big business in this country as an export product. Shows such as Neighbours and Home and Away are well known and well loved in the UK, Europe and the Commonwealth countries.
The ABC, the Australian branch of the BBC, put together a show called Sylvania Waters that was the taping of one family's real lives and presented as a sort of soapie. It was a big hit in Britain. The mother of this family became quite a celebrity for a while and even had a music video made for her.
