Djab Wurrung Sacred Trees and Songline Landscape need protecting.
The Djab Wurrung Heritage Protection Embassy is protecting Sacred
birthing trees on Djab Wurrung country from a planned highway extension
that is set to destroy this dreaming landscape. The Embassy was
established by Djab Wurrung elders and grassroots community, over 3
years ago.
These beautiful trees include an 800 year old tree that has seen over 50
generations born inside of a hollow in her trunk, and a 350 year old
Directions Tree. This area is part of the song line, the series of
scared trees and artefacts Djab Wurrung people find here regularly prove
its significance."
Via Muse, who wrote "The aboriginal peoples of Victoria Australia are
having their sacred trees destroyed by the state government under cover
of the pandemic restrictions. They have resorted to sitting in trees for
days without food or water to keep state employees from chopping down
these trees. In response the state is keeping anyone from getting
supplies to these people and fining anyone on the site $5000 and
dragging them off to jail."
