"The number of single older women seeking help to avoid being homeless
was “bubbling over” with support agencies across the state struggling to
deal with the crisis in affordable rental accommodation exposed by the
pandemic.
Brisbane Housing Company chief and deputy chair of the national
Community Housing Industry Association, Rebecca Oelkers, said
homelessness among older women across Queensland was no longer a hidden
problem, but an increasingly visible emergency magnified by coronavirus
stay-at-home restrictions and Brisbane’s New Year snap COVID lockdown."
