'More than a dozen LGBTQIA+ organisations will take up residence today in a
groundbreaking new community centre that will host essential groups and
services for LGBTQIA+ people across Melbourne.

The Pride Centre, on Fitzroy Street in St Kilda, is the first of its kind in
Australia, built to connect the queer community with essential services,
including health, legal, financial and entertainment providers.

Pride Centre chair Hang Vo said it was important to create permanent spaces for
the LGBTQIA+ community.

"Members of our community no longer have to … be in temporary accommodation, or
you know, visit a service through the back door because there's judgement," Ms
Vo said.

"Now we're all here in this place where we're visibly here, and we're here to
stay.

"Everything that is about LGBTQIA+ can come together in this one place, and
it's our home. It's actually a permanent safe home for LGBTQIA+ communities."'

Share and enjoy,
