"Let’s have a closer look at main events of 2021 and what’s coming for us in
2022. Obligatory disclaimer: I only talk about projects that I track more or
less closely. There are many more great projects out there, and I’d love to
hear your thoughts about those!
TL;DR
2021 was a lot of fun, 2022 is going to be interesting too! What’s coming:
* Blender 3.1 and 3.2 (at least), updates for 3.0 LTS
* BlenderBIM et al. updates (Building Information Modeling for Blender)
* Updates for Krita 5.0 (digital painting)
* darktable 4.0 and 4.2 (digital photography workflow)
* Siril 1.0 (astrophotography)
* Inkscape 1.2 (vector graphics illustration)
* Kdenlive 22.04, 22.08, and 22.12 (non-linear video editing)
* Ardour 7 (digital audio workstation)
* Surge XT, further Bespoke Synth and VCV Rack 2 updates (soft synths)
* PipeWire updates (audio/video framework that marries consumer and pro
workflows)
* Audacity 3.2 (multitrack audio editing)
* MuseScore 4.0 (sheet music editing)
Hopefully:
* GIMP 3.0 (image editing)
* FreeCAD 0.20 (computer-aided drafting)
* Olive 0.2 (non-linear video editing)
* Zrythm 1.0 (digital audio workstation and composition environment)
* New BeeRef releases (reference image viewer)"
Lots of great tools.
Share and enjoy,
