"A couple of weeks ago, my sister alerted me to a detail on the front page of
Finland’s biggest newspaper,
Helsingin Sanomat.
It’s a calculator that tracks the money European countries have paid Russia for
energy (oil, gas and coal) since the beginning of the war.
This is not just a devastating thing to look at as you’re seeing the news roll
in from Ukraine. It’s also an amazing way to use open political pressure.
After Finland stopped funding Russia’s illegal, imperialist invasion of
Ukraine,
Helsingin Sanomat removed the calculator from its front page. What
is still present, though, is the conflict.
Every day, Finnish newspapers are still focused on the invasion. On Friday,
pictures of Prime Minister Sanna Marin visiting Bucha, visibly moved, were all
over the front page.
While the rest of the world, and Europe, seem to already be willing to wipe
this entire war under the carpet and forget about it, Ukraine is still
struggling.
We can not stop talking about it."
Cheers,
