"COVID has killed over 11,000 Australians and experts believe it will lead to
chronic illness for over half a million of those infected so far. As each new
variant emerges we are learning more about the long-term harm COVID does to our
bodies, including causing damage to our immune system, weakening it with each
reinfection.
We have the tools to greatly reduce case numbers and bring the pandemic under
control, and could do so without major disruption or lockdowns. However, since
early 2022 our governments have abandoned most efforts to contain the pandemic,
and the majority of Australians are not well informed about the risks they are
exposed to as they attempt to “live with the virus”.
