"Europe has warmed at more than twice the global average over the past three
decades and experienced a greater temperature rise than any other continent,
the United Nations’ World Meteorological Organization said.
Average temperatures in the European region have risen by 0.5 degrees Celsius
(0.9 degrees Fahrenheit) each decade since 1991, according to the joint report
by World Meteorological Organization and the European Union’s Copernicus
Climate Change Service released on Wednesday.
“Europe presents a live picture of a warming world and reminds us that even
well prepared societies are not safe from impacts of extreme weather events,”
WMO secretary-general Petteri Taalas said in a statement.
Europe has been experiencing record temperatures and has become a “heatwave
hotspot” in the last few years."
