'Surrounded by the lush forests of the Otway Ranges, about 200 kilometres west
of Melbourne, sits an abandoned quarry in the tiny town of Beech Forest.
In need of earthworks, weed removal and government-legislated rehabilitation,
the quarry is what you might call a real fixer-upper.
But when Joseph Norster and his partner Millie Cattlin first saw it in 2015,
they knew it was what they'd been looking for.
"It turns out that you can buy a quarry in the Otways for a hell of a lot less
than you can buy a one-bedroom apartment in Preston or St Kilda or Brunswick,"
Mr Norster said.
The couple, both with backgrounds in design, are founders of
These Are The
Projects We Do Together, a collective that seeks to reimagine and rehabilitate
problem sites through creative practice.'
