“Sometimes I think high school is one long hazing activity: if you are tough
enough to survive this, they’ll let you become an adult. I hope it’s worth
it.”

  — Laurie Halse Anderson

"If you grow up in the United States, there are a couple of experiences that
are fairly universal. Like 4th of July fireworks, attending a typical American
high school is about as much of a cultural stronghold as you’re going to get
here.

American high school is weird. On one hand, they’re supposed to be the best
times of your life. On the other hand, I’ve yet to meet anyone who wasn’t a
sociopath who says this shit in all seriousness.

No lie, being in a typical American high school is its own unique form of hell.
One thing I noticed about people is that those four years (if you make it
through all four) seem to really leave a mark on people.

I’d go so far as to say that they are some of the most formative years of a
person’s life — at least, for many of us."

Cheers,
