"It was supposed to be convenient, not contagious.
A father has sworn off Uber Eats after a driver admitted he was sick with
Covid-19, and the food delivery service failed to give him any confidence they
cared.
Brady Wishnowsky was stunned when he received a text from a driver telling him
the food being delivered to his Palmerston North home on September 29 would be
left on his doorstep “coz I have covid”.
The full message said: “Hey, I’ll drop the order off @ ur doorstep bcoz I have
covid. Is it alright with u bcoz I don’t want to pass these symptoms onto u?
[sic]”
The meal, a Friday night treat of McDonald’s intended for his immunocompromised
son, Kaiden, went in the rubbish bin as a precaution, while his queries to Uber
Eats mustered responses more intent on triaging a complaint than reassuring him
this wasn’t common practice.
“I get that you don’t need to isolate now, but when you’re working with food,
it’s a no-brainer,” Wishnowsky said.
Although the Ministry of Health has removed all isolation requirements for
people with Covid-19 symptoms, there remains the recommendation that people who
have tested positive isolate for at least five days, even if symptoms are
mild."
