"The Queensland government says it will take years to get homes repaired, after
wild storms and flooding lashed the south-east over the Christmas holidays.
More than $15 million has been paid out to residents who've applied for
disaster recovery payments, $5m of which was paid in the last 24 hours.
That number includes Far North Queensland properties damaged in Tropical
Cyclone Jasper last month, just weeks before powerful thunder storms left a
trail of destruction across the Gold Coast and scenic rim.
A week later, a second round of intense storm activity drenched parts of the
region with up to 500 millimetres of rain.
Seven lives were lost during the weather events in the south-east."
