'The European Court of Human Rights announced the decision on the merits in the
first interstate case in "Ukraine v. Russia (regarding Crimea)," recognizing
the existence of systematic violations of human rights in occupied Crimea by
the aggressor state.

The case "Ukraine v. Russia (regarding Crimea)" concerned Ukraine's claims of
systematic violations of the European Convention on Human Rights by the Russian
Federation in Crimea.

It also related to allegations of systematic persecution of Ukrainians for
their political position and/or pro-Ukrainian activities ("Ukrainian political
prisoners").

Russia's systematic human rights violations were part of a campaign of
repression that included disappearances, illegal detentions, ill-treatment,
inability to renounce Russian citizenship, suppression of Ukrainian media, and
the functioning of the Ukrainian language in schools and transfers from Crimea
to remote prisons in Russia.'
