A lot of Ozy and Millie stories end this way, but this is a particularly striking example--basically, the participants in whatever's happening get bored and go off to do something else. You could argue that that's bad and predictable writing.
You could argue that that's just how life works. Childhood too, generally. The truth is there aren't a lot of tidy endings, and there aren't a lot of important transformative events. Things happen and then sort of peter out, and nobody really learns much.
Or maybe that's just my life and I need to get out more.
