Though my first computer was an Apple Macintosh, I switched to other brands of personal computer because upgrading my machine piece by piece became easier and less expensive. Also, most Internet software development is Unix and PC based. Therefore, it is a simple matter to find a lot of free software on the Internet for multimedia development for either CD-ROM or networked applications on this platform. More interesting for me is keeping track of what the next software advancements are likely to be, and to spend some time using and commenting on them. In this way not only am I aware of what is up and coming, I have some influence as to what it will be like. Currently, I am using a computer based on an AMD K6 processor, the equivalent of an Intel Pentium ProTM.
