"Why? Why does this have to involve harm or killing? I’m not squeamish
(I love horror and am halfway through Bloodborne); I’m conveying how
bored I am of seeing killing as the only way to progress in games."

Hear hear. Violence is the simplest possible way for a player to have a
visible effect on the game world, but I'm also well and truly over it. I
like games with a good story, whether pre-written or emerging
organically from the actions of the player. Thankfully adventure games
and RPGs have been doing very well in crowdfunding recently.
