"A close study of Kickstarter’s charter makes for fascinating reading. It
begins with a succinct mission: “To help bring creative projects to life. We
measure our success as a company by how well we achieve that mission, not by
the size of our profits.”"
I hope more companies follow suit.
I use Kickstarter quite a lot - I prefer contributing to people creating new
things, even when they sometimes fail, than paying full price for things that
are already very popular and well funded (I'll usually wait a few years and
pick those things up on sale). That supports diversity and allows me to have
some input, for example by requesting Linux versions of software.
