"Just like the people I work with in Athens everyday, we were smuggled
in, not on blow-up rafts but on an airplane. We asked for and were
granted asylum — in the days of the Cold War, crass dichotomies of good
vs. evil were so much easier to work out, especially as they applied to
foreigners. America good! Soviet Union bad! Afghan refugees think Soviet
Union bad! Therefore, Afghan refugees good! (For further policy
analysis, please see Rambo III.)"

A former refugee reflects on how attitudes have changed.

Cheers,
