Rather than grant services or particular goods to those in poverty, such
as food or housing, governments have found that it is more effective and
efficient to simply hand out cash."

Giving people who are below the poverty line money with no strings
attached helps not only the recipients but also society and the economy.
Giving everyone money (basic income) would have the same effect.  Via
