"After almost a decade of friendship, Emily and Kate have been through a
lot together.

Now they can add property ownership to that list.

After separating from her husband, Emily — a community arts teacher —
was unsure whether her future would include stable housing.

"It was the financial crisis instigated by my marriage breakdown that
forced me to think about how I was going to create financial security
for myself in the second half of my life, which I feel is a common
question for women after divorce," the 44-year-old says.

"As I've worked in community arts for most of my life, I'd often felt
that owning property would be out of reach financially, so I'd already
been considering alternative property options."

Those thoughts were shared by Kate, 42, who had contemplated what home
ownership might look like outside of a heteronormative relationship."

Share and enjoy,
