"In our recent study of 150 non-English speaking background migrants and
refugees living in Australia, nearly 80% revealed using their birth names in
their CVs led to fewer call-backs or no response at all.
This highlights language-based discrimination, and is an example of “name
microaggressions” – negative assumptions based on ethnic-sounding names.
Our participants said experiencing microaggressions against their birth names
has taken a heavy psychological toll on them."
