Part of the story that seems to be missing is how Noel White’s
success with the children at Carrolup school resulted in intense
internal jealousies among the white teachers. After only teaching for
three years the government entirely shut Carrolup and let Noel White
go.
We need to understand this. More fine artists are destroyed than achieve
support, much less success, in their lives. The results are
that we live in a drab world where no one has a chance to be creative.
In this case the situation is worse because the children were treated
especially badly for bringing something luminous into the world. When
we protect these sorts of expressions of humanity, we protect
ourselves.
In the meantime appreciate the beauty of what was made, and what it
meant to those children.
