"The Ecuadorian government has initiated the closure of a significant block of
oil wells following a referendum on pumping oil at a huge nature reserve last
year.
The 43-ITT oil block has already had one of its wells closed as part of the
plan, which is expected to take over five years to complete.
Ecuador's constitutional court ordered Petroecuador, its state-owned national
oil company, to remove the infrastructure on the Yasuni Biosphere Reserve in
one year, but authorities have said that much more time is needed."
