"When talking about barn-found vehicles, we usually think about classic cars.
Whether common or rare, these rigs are generally of the production variety.
However, people occasionally uncover prototypes or other vehicles that haven't
been sold to the public. The quirky AMC you see here is one of them.

The strange-looking vehicle was recently documented by Ryan Brutt of YouTube's
"Auto Archaeology." Ryan is mostly famous for uncovering barn-kept rigs from
the golden muscle car era. This AMC was produced around the same time but has
nothing in common with the gas-guzzling performance cars of the 1960s. Not only
does it look unlike anything else built at the time, but it doesn't have an
internal combustion engine either. You're looking at American Motors
Corporation's first electric car.

It's called the AMC Amitron and saw daylight in 1967. Its development was
prompted by the Electric Vehicle Development Act of 1966, which provided
funding for electric car research. But while other automakers opted to drop
batteries and an electric motor in an existing car, AMC built the Amitron from
scratch."
