"A group of about 6,660 people are behind a slew of over 440,000 letters
objecting to plans for wind farm developments in 40 areas in the Neckar-Alb
region of Baden-Württemberg, according to reporting from national broadcaster
SWR.
The letters, 280,000 of which can now be viewed online, were collected by a
group called “Gegenwind Neckar-Alb” (Against wind Neckar-Alb). On average, 65
objections were submitted per person.
In April 2024, members of the group [handed] over all of the hundreds of
thousands of letters which they had gathered online to the regional association
designating land for wind farms.
Of these letters 280,000 were handed over in printed form, and a further
160,000 on a CD. The regional association said it cost 104,000 euros to
digitise the printed letters.
“The extent to which the 40 areas previously planned for wind power will be
reduced or disappear completely depends on how relevant the objections are,”
Dirk Seidemann, the regional association’s director, said in an interview with
SWR. “What counts for us are arguments and not the number of times they come
in.”
Of the 6,650 people who sent letters, nearly 6,000 were sent from addresses in
the towns of Reutlingen, Tübingen and Zollernalb. The person responsible for
submitting the most letters (536), did so from an address in the Sauerland
region of the state North-Rhine Westphalia."
