"In the children’s animated film
Daisy Quokka: World’s Scariest Animal, a
feisty quokka aspires to compete in a dangerous sport known as The World’s
Scariest Games.
This is in defiance of her parents, who want her to work in tourism, looking
cute and smiling in photographs with visitors.
“What if I don’t want to smile?” Daisy says.
To find out how Daisy fares in spectacular physical challenges against a
crocodile and a komodo dragon, you’ll have to watch the movie.
But to see the distillation of Daisy’s indomitable spirit, just look to the
people who produced the film: Nadine Bates and Kristen Souvlis.
Under their production company, Like a Photon Creative, Bates and Souvlis have
made seven computer-animated feature films in Brisbane in as many years.
The most recent (and best),
The Last Tiger, has the distinction of being the
first Australian animated movie written and directed by an Indigenous female
filmmaker (Chantelle Murray).
The company’s first three features,
The Wishmas Tree,
Combat Wombat and
Daisy Quokka, garnered releases in 175 global territories."
