"The evacuation of the
MV Hondius is complete as of Monday night, with those
linked to the ship’s Andes hantavirus (ANDV) outbreak being monitored or
quarantined in 13 different countries. Each country receiving those exposed or
infected are handing next steps or monitoring differently. Some countries, like
the US, aren’t sharing information. Misreporting is rampant.
The outbreak is now at 11 cases, three of those are dead.
An infected French woman is on an artificial lung in the “final stage of
supportive care” in a Paris hospital. (
Guardian misreported and then
retracted its article saying the woman had been gaslit by doctors about her
symptoms.) An infected Spanish passenger is in quarantine in Madrid. Twelve
employees of a Dutch hospital are in quarantine after mishandling samples from
one of the exposed. A British man who was on a flight with a woman who died
(the Dutch index case) was detained at an Italian bar yesterday where he was
partying with a companion: they are both now in quarantine.
WHO states all exposed should quarantine for 42 days. Yesterday, 22 exposed
passengers were released from a UK hospital (Liverpool) and “will be expected
to isolate for another 42 days at home.”
The US CDC is not requiring hantavirus cruise passengers to quarantine, is
“encouraging” people to stay home during the monitoring period. Per press,
people in the "high risk" category "are instructed to stay home and limit
contact with others," with two daily check-ins. One of the physicians leading
the Trump administration’s hantavirus response is a penile specialist who
hosted a show called "Erection Connection," and spreads conspiracy theories
about Covid."
