"The era of grand movie palaces, from the 1910s to the 1940s, added elaborately
decorated, beautiful structures to the American built environment. Some survive
to this day. While some of these theaters continue to provide entertainment to
rapt audiences, many have been converted to other uses. With the Oscars coming
up this weekend, we find ourselves nostalgic for the experience of watching
movies in a theater, as well as for the golden age of theaters like the ones
featured below."
