"The Healey administration said it will assume the full cost of hormone therapy
and counseling for transgender children and teenagers covered by two public
insurance programs if a federal rule out Tuesday takes effect on Oct. 13, 2026,
as proposed.
The move is the latest effort by the Trump administration to ban medical care
for trans kids.
“Children deserve our protection, not experimental interventions that pose
serious risks and convey no proven benefits,” said Medicaid administrator Dr.
Mehmet Oz in a statement. “By cutting off federal funds for these sex-rejecting
procedures, we’re following the science, saving taxpayer dollars, and, most
importantly, protecting children from potentially irreversible harm so they can
truly flourish.”
Major medical societies continue to back hormone therapy and other gender
transition treatments for children and teens. A spokesman for the state’s
Office of Health and Human Services said Massachusetts will follow that
guidance.
“The Healey-Driscoll Administration is committed to ensuring all Massachusetts
residents have access to the life-saving gender-affirming health care they need
and deserve,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “We will work with our
health care partners across the state so that they can continue to offer this
critically important care in the face of federal assaults.”"
Via Muse, who wrote "I like this comment: “didn’t wait for litigation. Within
days she committed Massachusetts state money to cover trans kids’ healthcare —
not a statement, not a study, not a working group. Money.”"
Cheers,
