disability became cool,” with the subhead, “Young women, nicknamed
‘sickfluencers’, are turning chronic illness into a lifestyle trend and
entrenching a culture of economic inactivity.”
This article serves a political purpose.
It shores up the government narrative that rising rates of disability are being
driven, not by the ongoing and unchecked spread of COVID-19, but by people just
deciding they want to “identify as disabled.”
This claim is absurd on its face."
