"According to a NASA-funded study in
Science, half of the world’s glaciers
will vanish with just 1.5°C of warming by 2100. And we are already getting
uncomfortably close to that dooming temperature increase set by the 2015 Paris
Agreement this year, not in 77. A report from the World Meteorological
Organization in May indicated a 66% likelihood of crossing this threshold
between 2023 and 2027. But Berkeley Earth now estimates a 55% chance that 2023
will see an average temperature increase of 1.5°C.
While breaching the Paris limit requires sustained warming over many years,
this surge is alarming. And glaciers disappearing all over the world are the
undeniable evidence."
