"Cairns mum Kate Lamason was shocked to learn that 99 per cent of the 50,000
tonnes of tinned tuna that Australians eat every year is imported and that less
than a third of it is certified as sustainably fished.

As a nation, we consume a staggering 336 million servings of the cheap,
nutritious form of protein annually — roughly the same weight as the Sydney
Harbour Bridge.

When Rowan Lamason pointed out Australia's reliance on imports to his wife six
years ago, he was tuna fishing off the Cairns coast using cameras, electronic
logbooks and vessel monitoring systems to meet our domestic fishery's strict
sustainability standards.

Astounded by what her husband told her, the accountant and mother of three set
out to do some research."

Cheers,
