"Hello again from our current public health clusterfuck, in which COVID
infections continue to rise domestically and globally while the FDA makes it
harder and more confusing for Americans to get vaccinated against the virus.
The FDA did approve Moderna’s vaccine for those 6 months and older, Pfizer’s
vaccine for ages 5+, and Novavax for 12+ folks—meaning nearly all Americans can
technically get vaccinated against COVID. But as of last week, the FDA is only
recommending COVID vaccinations for the elderly (65+) or those with nebulous
“health problems.” (Pregnant people and very young children did not make the
list, even though they are as likely as older adults to get seriously ill from
COVID.) Pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens are refusing to even schedule vaccine
appointments in many states because whether and how insurance will cover COVID
vaccines for anybody remains an open question.
And that, friends, is bullshit.
We vaccinate not only to protect ourselves, but to protect everyone. Vaccines
work best when as many people as possible can and do get them, thus making it
harder for anybody to get sick. RFK Jr.’s FDA is attempting to privatize
immunity, which is just…not how public health works.
Nevertheless, the Director of Health and Human Services’ deadly and ongoing
clownfuckery persists in recklessly, needlessly endangering human life and
flourishing in defiance of scientific evidence while the CDC crumbles."
